This time from the Indo Global International Film Festival. That makes 4 awards now for my cherished creation. Feeling all the feels. This abstract #alcoholinkpainting is titled “Blood Need Only Signify Womanhood.” The title comes from a phrase in a poem I wrote for my collection, BONES, entitled “Equilibrium.” It refers to a utopia where violence no longer exists; therefore blood is no longer shed except by glorious nature when girls become women. So, this painting sees a world of such utopian dream. This painting is one of two of mine selected for the upcoming #artexhibition called Rhythm & Reveal” at @buttonwoodartspace in Kansas City. It opens July 1 thru September 22. 9”x12” alcohol ink on Yupo. #blessedlife😇 Very relaxed gig last night. The way I like it. No more high pressure; bandwiches in the back room; crazy, shrill clients; dress codes; marathon sets. No. More. Ever. Again. Amazing how much happier that makes my life. Don’t get me wrong. I had a blast for many years hustling the gigs, having doubles and triples in a single day, and makin’ bank. But I’m interested in a whole other flavor, a whole other pace now. Maybe I need to write the sequel to “Trading Fours.” Trading Eights! Short clip from my KCUR & KMUW public radio interview with Carla Eckels of Soulsations. Originally aired 4/2/22.
